ROV was promoting at my university and I was looking for an overseas experience to end my year and so I attended the information session and came on this trip. Africa has been a dream destination for me to go for a long time. The opportunity to immerse myself in wildlife while also making a difference for the less fortunate was very appealing for me. The most memorable parts of the project were seeing all the amazing wildlife, which I was entirely expecting before going on this trip. But interacting with the kids at the creche and playing with them was an unexpected highlight since I wasn't expecting them to be so friendly and outgoing towards us. I really enjoyed my project and if anything it exceeded my expectations in terms of organization and hospitality. I feel like we made a significant difference at the creche we worked at since we could tell how much the kids there appreciated our work. My team leader did a great job in terms of hospitality and taking care of us while also bringing energy and enthusiasm towards the activities we did. She is definitely the right type of person to be a team leader and she carried out her ole very well.

The two weeks I spent in Africa were the best two weeks of my life. I got to immerse myself within the culture and the amazing people. This volunteering project changed my life forever. It was incredible to see the impact I had on the people. South Africa is such an amazing beautiful country with the most amazing wildlife imaginable. The experience was also made 10 times better because of the people I was on the trip with, especially our team leader Jackson. His passion for ROV is incredible. He is such an amazing role model and leader, and the experience would not have been as amazing without him. I would highly recommend this volunteering trip to everyone. It was the best decision I ever made to come on this trip.

"I chose ROV because they were advertised everywhere at my university. I also chose it because upon researching it, I discovered a variety of volunteer opportunities as well as the activities within the program. It seemed to have an appropriate balance of leisurely activities as well as volunteering work that actually makes a difference. The most memorable experience for me was by far living on the game reserve and seeing the variety of animals every day, from impalas to lions we all enjoyed seeing any animal. It was much more than I expected. The facilities were much nicer than I expected. The community project was an amazing experience. Having previously been on previous volunteer trips this was the first project that I felt we made a difference and contributed back to the community ie concrete making for the creche. Jade was an incredible team leader, I would not have asked for a better person to be a team leader than her. She has been so nurturing as well as supportive throughout our journey here in Africa. She always seems to brighten our day jo matter what, whether we are hungover or exhausted from work. Jade's perspective on life has made her an unforgettable person. I don't think I'll ever meet a person like her again, she has taught me so much about the world in this small amount of time."

Jackson has been an amazing team leader, he's like my brother now! We had an amazing team, I learnt a lot from everyone. I have been volunteering with different organizations and ROV is the best one. This is my second project with ROV and the experience can't be better.

There are few words that can really describe what this trip is like. The whole experience is so incredible that even shovelling sand and rocks is a good time. Experiencing the African culture is amazing. Every person you meet is the friendliest person on the planet, which makes it even harder to say goodbye when the trip comes to an end. It is impossible not to like every single person that helps with the program. Jackson was an amazing team leader as well and made the experience so much better. This was my second project with ROV and it has been one of the best times of my life. There is no way you can regret going on a trip like this and I can guarantee I'll be going with ROV again.

I heard about reach out through my university and I knew before hand I wanted to go on a mission trip because it's something that I would never think of doing before. I went to the information session and south africa instantly caught my eye. I got the best of both worlds with seeing the animals and the kids. Coming to South Africa, and especially coming through reach out has been the best decision of my life. It has humbled me in every way and opened me up to human connection more than ever. My team leader, Jackson was absolutely perfect. He made sure everyone felt comfortable at all times, there was never a moment I felt alone or homesick because Jackson quickly became like a brother figure to me. He took time in getting to know about the deepest facts on my life and cared for everyone as if they were family. Even though this was my first reach out trip, I really think Jackson is the best team leader out there. And this definetly won't be my last trip!! I'm so Thankful for the friendships reach out has brought to me from all over the world. I will never forget the impact south africa made on me.

The South African program was amazing. Accommodations and food were excellent. The work we did on the game reserve and at the críÂches was so rewarding. I really felt that the work we did made a direct impact to the people and animals in the community. I feel I truly experienced Zulu culture! All of the cultural emersion activities were so fun and very educational. The locals were so friendly and welcoming!! Our team leader Jackson was so amazing. He was always so enthusiastic and fun. There was never a dull moment on the trip! I couldnäó»t imagine a better person to lead us in South Africa! Everything about this program was so fantastic and truly changed my life!

The African experience with reach out volunteers was the most inspiring, amazing and life changing experience that I will cherish for a life time. Throughout the two wonderful weeks we got the privilege to meet and interact with beautiful wildlife, people and communities that will forever be in your heart! I gained new perspectives, confidence and passion to do more good in the world. If you want to have a great impact in the world and meet great people, this program is for you. With team leader Jackson and guides bheki and sanele I have never felt safer and valued as a person. They become your family away from home while providing such a unique experience !

Working on this project was one of the greatest experiences that I've had. We were completely immersed in the communities we visited, which allowed us to see exactly what it's like to live in South Africa, giving me a new perspective on the world. While living on the game reserve, we went on many drives to look for the animals, and we were lucky enough to see both lions and rhinos right along the road. We were also able to look for snares set up by poachers and remove alien plants that cause a lot of problems in South Africa. During the second week in St. Lucia, we fixed the playgrounds and made bricks for the creches. This was hard, but seeing and spending time with the kids each day while knowing this was all for them made it completely worth it. Also while in St. Lucia, we went on a boat cruise where we saw hippos and crocodiles, and we went on a night drive where we saw more hippos walking through the streets. This trip was amazing; everyone in the group became great friends, and it felt like we had all known each other for much longer than the two weeks that we were together. Jackson was amazing at being a team leader and made the entire trip fun for everyone through his excitement for each activity that we did and by showing how much he cares about each member of the group, as well as those that we worked with in the community throughout the program. From the beginning of each day at breakfast, until we all went to bed, he was very enthusiastic and continuously made us all laugh even through the hard work that we did. We all learned so much, and I hope to come back again.

Going on this trip was the best decision I've ever made! It started out with a week long safari in a game park where we saw lions, elephants, giraffes, and leopards! We spent the second week in St. Lucia where we helped build day care centers in the local villages. I'm so glad I chose ROV because I was able to see the direct impact I had whether it was removing alien plants, collecting snare traps, or helping build the day care centers and playing with the children! My favorite part of the trip was getting to know amazing people from all around the world, including our tour guides and team leader Jackson! Without such an amazing group of people, such a meaningful trip would not have been possible!

"Seeing the lion hunt at Somkhanda was incredible, and no I never expected to experience something like that Also the elephant experience is something i won't ever forget. Yes, it will make a difference, just by seeing how happy the kids were and how much they loved the creche that had already been completed She was amazing, so kind and passionate about the project, so open and friendly to everyone. Very happy with the way she does her job."

Working on this project was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of my life! Our two week journey through South Africa was made up of two completely unique experiences. Our first few days were spent living in a Big Five Game Park where we camped under the beautiful stars of South Africa. Here we were able experience many up close sightings of the wildlife here that is like no other. The remainder of our journey was spent working at two of ROVäó»s community creche projects in St Lucia. This was a whole new experience in itself as we were each able to do our part in the development of the creche. This was extremely rewarding and I truly cherish the moments we were able to spend interacting with the beautiful children who have have so little yet are so incredibly happy. This journey could not of been possible without the beautiful team it was made up of. Sanele and Bheki were guides like no other, their knowledge and their humour just completed this trip. Busi was incredibly hardworking, providing us with three meals each day. Gideon and Sam were both super supportive in our contribution the creche. Jackson our team leader was welcoming from the very beginning. He genuinely cared about each and every person involved in this project, that included the volunteers, as well as all the team members mentioned above as well. His energy and passion for this project truly had an effect on each and every volunteer, it is clear that he is truly making a difference in this community. I couldnäó»t have asked for a better team leader or group to share this experience with. This inspirational journey is one that I will most definitely remember and cherish forever.

To put it simply this trip was the absolute best experience of my life. I joined this program to make a difference to the lives of people who are less fortunate than me and this project exceeded my expectations in that aspect along with all other aspects. During the first week at the safari reserve we removed a total of 12 snares set by poachers ultimately saving the lives of 12 animals that inhabit the game reserve. We also removed alien plant species from the game reserve that out compete the native plants that the animals feed from. These removals greatly impact the conservation of the game park and it was fulfilling to know that Iäó»ve made a difference to the lives of endangered species who need even the littlest of help. During the second week at the críÂche we made bricks for future buildings, laid concrete pavements and cleared shrubs. Although the work was quite physically demanding seeing the smiles on the kids faces and knowing that we are making a huge positive difference to their future was very rewarding and worth every blister. Learning about the culture in South Africa was interesting and Iäó»ve know acquired a better understanding and appreciation for it. The locals were very welcoming and made me feel completely at home. Our group was amazing and we became one big family and we have all gained a true friendship. Overall, this experience was life changing and has a very special place in my heart along with each and every member of our new acquired family. I was not at all ready to leave and upon leaving it was one of the hardest goodbyes Iäó»ve ever had to do. I 100% recommend this project it will change your life and I promise you will have zero regrets.

"The African experience was such an A-MAZ-ING trip. It was a really cool experience to get to be able to help the wildlife on the game park and also be able to help the Zulu community. The locals and the team lead do so much for this part of rov. You can really tell how much work goes into this project and being able to see it complete is truly a one of a kind experience. The people in my group were really the ones who made it so memorable that Iäó»ll never forget it! This place and the people will have a special place in my heart forever! I met the team lead, Jackson as a volunteer last year on a project in Cambodia and seeing him step into this role of becoming a team lead is amazing. Anyone can obviously tell that this is the job for him. Once you go on this project, you will be able to see all the amazing things this project was able to create and how it helps the community. Iäó»d give this project an 11/10. Team work really does make the dream work. Being on 2 trips really showed me that rov does äóìchange the world one village at a timeäó?. Itäó»s definitely a trip I would highly recommend!!! Abousha! (Cheers!)"

"An amazing experience that offers a variety of cultural and natural experiences in South Africa. I do feel like there was a little too great of a focus on the natural side (looking for animals on the game viewers), but I enjoyed it nonetheless! While I understand this isnäó»t always possible logistically, I think it wouldäó»ve been best to go to the game park second rather than first as it would then serve as a bit of a spiritual and personal (deeper) experience between the volunteers as well as a break after a week of hard work on the críÂches as opposed to a nice äóÖgetting to know youäó» experience as it were, which would happen naturally as you work together. Jackson (TL) is a medley of eccentricities with which he can get along with anyone and everyone both personally and professionally. Our group had a wide range of personalities, all of which he managed to appropriately cater for. He showed genuine care for everyone he interacted with, allowing for a relaxed and open environment, going well beyond his call of duty. Heäó»s one of a kind, someone who Iäó»ll miss dearly. He is approachable, funny, calm and genuine all while maintaining a sense of professionalism and authority. Having had Domdin as my TL on my Cambodia trip years ago, Jackson has confirmed my belief that ROV selects the best people possible for the role of Team Leader. Theyäó»ve set the bar high for my next projectäó»s team leader, who I know will be just as amazing. As a whole, Iäó»d highly recommend this project for anyone who is looking for an authentic experience in a different, but not too outlandish area (some roads, cars and brick buildings) whilst putting in a bit of hard work on the críÂches."

Out of all the things I could have done this summer, I am so happy I made the choice to volunteer with Reach Out in South Africa. Both weeks, while quite different from each other, were so amazing and rewarding in their own way. I strongly believe it was the people that made this trip so special. From our inspirational and passionate group leader, Jackson, to our knowledgeable tour guides, and the amazing locals of South Africa, everyone was so kind and motivational. There is nothing I would have changed about this trip. Definitely an experience Iäó»ll never forget!!

"I did a lot of research and chatted to people that had done it before. I was worried about how legit it was and if it was a not-for-profit organization. Based on my research I found it the best option. HOWEVER, I think there needs to be more info given by ROV so that people feel comfortable giving their money and signing up for the program. The night drives, all being so exhausted and laughing about it. Was just great bonding and everything was AMAZING! Loved the hard work!!! Was very rewarding! Yes! I was in Africa to volunteer and thatí¢ä‰åä‹¢s it. I wasn't expecting the cultural activities so it was an added bonus. Omg she was AMAZING!!! She was everything we needed her to be! She had everyone's respect and was a great role model. Perfect leader for this type of adventure!!!"

Overall this experience was one of a kind and well worth the expense. The memories and bonds that were made have helped to shape me into a better person and understand true privilege. I would do something like this again in a heart beat, the children and culture were beautiful and so heart warming. Jackson was an amazing, caring, outgoing and friendly team leader, he respectfully made everyone feel welcomed and comfortable. His energy was uplifting and inspiring. Thank you Jackson and thank you ROV.

One of the best experiences of my life. Spending time with the kids at the críÂche was my favorite part. More specifically when we had a party with bubbles and candy!!! along with the people leading and assisting with our group. Our leader, Jackson, worked hard to make sure we were happy at all times and having fun even while mixing cement!!! Bheki and Sanele are excellent guides, drivers, tire changers, and incredible human beings. I give them all 10/3 stars!!!!
